Nickel 201 Socket Weld Fittings Applications
Alloy 201 forged Socket Welding (SW) fittings are mainly used to permanently join pipes that are inserted into a recess in the fitting, flange, or valve. Once correctly inserted, fillet-type sealing welds are applied to join the pipe to the fitting. It is commonly known as SW pipe fittings, with SW elbows, SW couplings, and SW tees being examples of different types. Grade 201 Socket weld fittings have high leakage integrity and structural strength and can be used to change the direction of travel for pipe networks as well as join pipes at different angles and of different diameters.
Alloy 201 is a wrought commercially pure Nickel with a maximum carbon level of 0.02%. It is resistant to acids and alkalis, and dry gases at room temperature. It is also resistant to mineral acids depending on the temperature and concentration of the solution. Nickel 201 may be considered for service above 600 °F (316 °C), where alloy 200 with higher carbon content is not recommended.
