Duplex S31803 forged Socket Welding (SW) fittings are mainly used to permanently join pipes that are inserted into a recess in the fitting, flange, or valve. Once correctly inserted, fillet-type sealing welds are applied to join the pipe to the fitting. It is commonly known as SW pipe fittings, with SW elbows, SW couplings, and SW tees being examples of different types.
UNS S31803 is a duplex grade with a ferritic-austenitic microstructure. UNS S31803/2205 is a cost-effective duplex stainless steel grade and it is performing well in aggressive environments. As compared to 317L stainless steel, It has superior resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion. Duplex steels are also magnetic, a property that can be used to easily differentiate them from common austenitic grades of stainless.
